California Gold Rush By Digital Chocolate 2009 Java Game For Mobile

Game Title: California Gold Rush
Developer: Sumea
Publisher: Digital Chocolate
Game Platform: J2ME
Tested Version: 1.0.3

Story:
The story dates back to 1848 in Coloma, California, and a legendary history of gold miners. A mine belonging to the mine-keeper, Frank Marshall, had again gone down. He needed someone else; someone who had a bit more spark and finesse. Suddenly, a pretty young lady showed up, carrying a backpack full of gold and diamonds! Her name was Mandy, and she could be the perfect person to prospect Frank's lands for gold mines, and to look for certain artifacts. Mandy was on her way...

Design:
There are two different game modes for you to enjoy: "Story Mode" and "Quick Mode". In Story Mode, there are altogether 30 mines for you explore, including regular mines, bonus mines and the mysterious "legendary" mine. While in the Quick Mode, your task is to gather as much gold as you can, and dig mines as deep as possible to get extra time. Story Mode is very interesting because there are several different environments, such as "collapses", "lava", "ice", "gas" and "rocks", all of which will try to block your way. What's great is that you can use extra items to handle such circumstances. The items can be purchased in the "shop". In some levels, you may have bonus goals, such as finding a certain number of mines or rescuing miners who are stranded underground. If you meet these goals, you can get bonus gold. But first, you must finish the first milestone to get at least one star to pass the level.

Your adventure will cross 5 different areas, such as the "American River", "Lake Tahoe" and "The Sierras". You will be honored with stars according to the amount of gold you get from the mine. On the journey, you can also receive knowledge from "historical trivia". The more gold you gather, the more historical trivia from the era will be unlocked. And in some areas, you are able to find "rare artifacts" that will lead you to a legendary mine, which will be rumored to hold the biggest gold piece of all. Under the ground, besides gold and diamonds, "bats" and "Pandora's Boxes" can be found. They are called "Pandora's Boxes" because they may bring you luck, or evil. :P You can open them just to test your fortune. The bats may hurt you or you may make money from them
The graphics are amazing, and are certain to please everyone!!! The sound effects are also very good; it brings me to the California countryside. XD

Gameplay:
Before you start digging, there are 2 mines for training. Don't think of skipping them and heading straight for the real ones, as you have to get at least one star for each mine in order to open new ones. It may seem to you that the game is endless in each mine. You're wrong. You should have the common sense that man under the ground still needs air and energy. So when you dig, you consume energy, which is displayed on the top-right of the screen. When it reaches zero, the game will be over. But you can replay it whenever you want. The shop supplies many kinds of items, but the amounts are limited. You can find "maps", "supports", different kinds of "explosives", or you can just chat with the store-keeper to gather information about the bonus mines.

Control:
The control is very easy. Move Mandy by using the "2", "4", "6" and "8" keys. Dig mines in the same direction you go. But, you can also dig the mines above you. Use the items from the inventory by pressing the "left" soft-key. Since the mines are very big, you can have a free-camera view by pressing "0" and using directional keys to have a look. Press the "0" key again to quit the view. When you meet bats underground, you can only kill them when they stop. If they are flying and you touch them, the gold in your bag will decrease by 1000.
